WTF teams up with Isha Foundation with pledge to plant 100,000 trees!

"Life is a grand collaboration between men and nature..."

Being people that are passionate about nature, we are always searching for ways where we could lend a helping hand in creating a healthier planet; revitalizing her even in the tiniest of ways...

We always believe in the importance of working on a project that is close to our hearts; something we want to personally do or achieve; something we can directly get involved with; something real...

As we set out on a search across the globe, we came across a mission from a foundation we personally adore; Cauvery Calling. As we dove deeper into this campaign, we were moved by the 47,190 lives that were lost from farmers who lost all sense of belonging, strength and hope due to the depletion of fresh water and the inability to farm their crops...

Through this fact alone we were turned for good; setting our sights on helping India's famed Cauvery to flow with abundance once again. This campaign is the first of it's kind and will serve as the blueprint for India’s rivers, on how they can be brought back to life...

To kick off our #TreeOfLife project this year, WTF teamed up with Isha Foundation for the 'Cauvery Calling' project which will support the farmers to plant 2.42 Billion trees in an effort to revitalize the Cauvery River Basin which is almost completely depleted due to massive deforestation; and in turn, transform the lives of 84 million people who depend on its vitality for survival...

Our personal pledge beginning today will be to achieve 100,000 trees by the 1st of September 2021, which is exactly 363 days from now. Though it is a massive number to reach, we have faith that through our togetherness, we can do remarkable things together...

The cost of planting a tree for Cauvery is less than RM3 per sapling, which means it's possible for all of us to play a part at least once in this initiative. Through your support, we pledge 10% of our monthly earnings from collections sold online and offline to fund the targeted 100,000 trees; hopefully come this time, next year...

For those who wish to donate directly instead of purchasing a product from us can do so here! 100% from all contributions will automatically go to Isha Foundation's Cauvery Calling Project; with donations beginning with 50 tree saplings...

Here are some facts and figures on this mission...

One Problem, Two Faces

Cauvery's Depletion

As trees disappear, soil is being eroded, Cauvery is drying up, and farmers are suffering.

  • Cauvery has depleted over 40% in the last 70 years
  • 87% of the basin’s original tree cover has been lost
  • Almost half the Cauvery basin suffers critical groundwater depletion.

Farmer Distress

The suffering of farmers and their suicides in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have made national headlines.

  • 47,190 farmer suicides in 15 years in Cauvery basin
  • 83% of farmers in Tamil Nadu and 77% of farmers in Karnataka are in debt
  • 17 districts in Tamil Nadu were drought-hit in 2019
  • 15 of the last 18 years have been drought years in Karnataka

Targeted Impact

The simplest way to make Cauvery flow again is to plant trees. Cauvery Calling will support farmers to plant 242 crore trees in Cauvery basin by adopting agroforestry.

This will have the triple benefit of

  • Improving soil health by replenishing organic content in the soil
  • Reviving the river and groundwater levels by increasing water retention in Cauvery basin by an estimated 40%
  • Augmenting farmer income through agroforestry, proven to increase farmers’ incomes 300-800% in 5-7 years

Though the road to achieving this may be blurry right now, but we have faith that in the process of making this miracle happen, our joint dream of seeing Cauvery flow abundantly again for the people of India will come true by the grace of God...

"May the light of the heavens bring strength to all those in need, hope to all those who suffer, and faith to all those who wants to believe..."
