Wisdom From This Stone :

"If you find yourself attracted to this stone, it means that it's time to realign with your inner-self once again. It is a sign that Mother Nature is asking you to 'Trust' in her, in managing your worries and problems; to let go of all that is beyond your control and to let life flow freely.

Being drawn to this stone often means we are called to 'Presence' once again. It means that the solution to our problems, lies in our ability to connect deeply with the energy of our soul; and the only way to connect deeper with ourselves, is to recognize the blessings of the present moment.

Often dubbed the 'Autumn stone', the Jasper reminds us of the lessons learnt during this beautiful season. It demonstrates to us the beauty of life in all its glory; turning trees into flowers, while showing us that beauty exists within each and everyone of us as we journey through this existence.

It reminds us of the impermanence in life; that 'nothing lasts forever', which also makes the 'Gift of Life' ever more beautiful. It shows us that life is best experienced in the 'Present'; and it is in the present moment that we are able to fully 'live out' the promises of life.

Being called to the Jasper often means that we are being called to 'Surrender'. It means to let go of the burdens that we've been carrying and to trust that mother nature knows best. It means to let 'Life' lead the way, and to open ourselves up to the abundances in our lives.

Having a Jasper in your life keeps you feeling grounded, connected and open to  life's most gracious miracles. It fills our hearts with a sense of nurturing love and comfort; the kind of security that we feel when we are protected by someone we love. It brings compassion, understanding and empathy into our experience; making us better communicators, better lovers, better parents, better leaders, etc.

It shows us that 'Kindness' is the way forward, and that true confidence comes from a space of deep love, respect and connection with ourselves. It teaches us that being confident, is the ability to be 'Brave enough to be kind', and 'Strong enough to be gentle'. It reminds us that by being kind to others, we are in fact being kind to ourselves by not betraying the essence of who we are (Love).

Last but not least, Jaspers are some of the most beautiful miracles of nature. It removes us from the stresses surrounding our circumstances, while opening us up to the blessings around us; filling our hearts with a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation for life.

It anchors us back to the present, while reminding us that 'Gratitude' is the gateway to experiencing 'Grace'; and that through 'Grace' we are able to see the Abundance that has always been present throughout each and every moment of our lives..."

Meditation :

Jaspers provide a calm, harmonious energy for meditation. Ideal for grounding and centring when used in the beginning of a session, these stones helps ease the transition into a meditative state.

Use Jasper for the first few minutes of any meditation, and switch to a crystal or particular Jasper that is attuned to the intent of your session.

Myths & Legends :

Japser honours Bona Dea, the Roman Earth Goddess of Fertility and the Greek Goddess of Women. She protects women through all of their changes, and is a skilled healer, particularly with herbs.

Jasper is also known to be related to Gaia; the Greek Earth Mother Goddess. Born directly out of Chaos, the primal emptiness, she was the first (or one of the first) beings to appear during the process of creation, and is honoured as being the Earth itself.

Many legends claim that if one has worn Jasper since childhood, he or she will be protected from drowning and ghosts; and those who carry this stone on their bodies are protected from accidents and will have all their wishes fulfilled. Opinions differ as to whether it should be set in silver or gold, but all are unanimous in saying it should be worn on the right side, and should be worn chastely after it has been blessed and consecrated.

Jasper was also a significant stone in nearly all religious and cultural histories throughout the world. In Mesopotamia, the god Marduk (Jupiter) formed three heavens or spheres above the Earth, with the lower one being created from Jasper. On it he drew the constellations.

In the Viking sagas and German legends, the hilt of the magical sword of Siegfried, the dragon-slayer, was inlaid with a Red Jasper to give him courage.

This same stone was also called the blood of Mother Earth among some Native North American tribes, and in ancient Egypt, it was linked with the fertilizing blood of Mother Isis.

Jaspers were often used for carving texts on sacred amulets for placement on the bodies of the dead to provide safe passage into the afterlife.

They were ideal for engraving, and from the earliest ages, they were heavily employed in the glyptic arts of many cultures for its special talismanic virtues.

One such virtue is the depiction of a man, specifically Mars, on a piece of Jasper with a shield in his left and an idol or weapon in his right. With vipers as his feet and a cock or lion as his head, enables its owner to battle his enemies and obtain victory. It also protects him from poison. This is the depiction on the sacred Abrasax stone.
