"In actual fact, i'm still in my 20's; not as old as i seem in the picture. Growing up, my social circle has been very different from my childhood friends. I used to love being around grown ups; people like my dad, his friends, the hawker by the street, teachers, the caretaker of the shop, people that were way older than i was. For me, the value of life is in the wisdom that is passed down from the ages; from people to people, old to the young or even young to the old; the invaluable adventures of others that we may not be able to fully experience with such a short time here on Earth...
I love listening to stories, engaging in conversations with people just so that i could run my imagination and feel what it was like to be experiencing life from a different perspective...
If anyone were to ask me to share a story, it would be difficult because there are so many tales to be told from what i've heard; i wouldn't know where to start. But if you were to ask me about what i've come to learn from my own personal experiences so far, i would say a few, because it is what i'm here to share with you about today. This is a story of my life; the thoughts that i had and the lessons that i learnt going through different phases during my time as a young adult...
First and foremost, when we grow up, we tend to be surrounded more frequently by decisions that we have to make. Being a child is easy because we have all the decisions made for us by our parents or guardians, however as we get older, the responsibility is handed over to us; it gets a little more serious than it used to be, simply because our decisions will be the cause and effect of our lives...
However i've learnt that whenever we make a decision, there will always be lots of noises that will cloud your thoughts; varying opinions from people all around you. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to remember the reason you wanted to start in the first place; the reason you made that choice; because when the noises of others starts to drown out the voice in your head; weigh your options and shut out the unnecessary. Be unshakable in your decisions, because at the end of the day, you and only you will be responsible for the actions you had to take...
Secondly, once we have a decision and decided to pursue it, we have to always be prepared for the unthinkable; be prepared for the sacrifices that may follow, or the loss that can happen. For example, say you chose to further your studies abroad, and in an unfortunate turn of events, a family members passes on into the afterlife while you're away, you might begin to doubt yourself and the decisions you made which is the reason you are unable to say your last goodbyes. If life throws you a curve ball such as this, don't sweat on it. Don't beat yourself up just because you took a wrong turn. Nothing is going to change; nothing is going to bring back what is lost. The only thing that is left to do is to make the best of what you have and move forward. It is the only way of avoiding the trap of feeling guilty in times of agony. Remember, there are no coincidences in life. Everything is perfectly where it's supposed to be...
Last but not least, my wish is for this to help all those who are experiencing long distance relationships. To have a relationship like this is easy, but to keep it alive is another story; in fact it's extremely challenging. There will times where certain things will break your will, where you will start having doubts on one another. There may be days where we give each other the cold treatment; days where we find ourselves speechless with one another, days we may think that we have nothing in common anymore...
If this happens, just remember, they are nothing more than illusions that are meant to test your love for one another. They are nothing more than illusions that are meant to show you what you've been missing; illusions to help you reignite those flames of love. Always keep close to your hearts the reason you chose to be with one another, the reason you chose to love one another despite the circumstance; because as long as we appreciate each other, there is nothing that can ever come between us...
A simple hack would be to just talk about all the plans that you have together for the next time you're able to meet up; the memories that you've spent with one another, the journey that awaits both of you. Because when we are apart, the only thing that is strong enough to hold us together is our love for one another, and the memories that we've shared together. Everything else is obsolete...
My greatest wish for everyone is that you will find the courage to make the decisions that you need to live your life. To have the courage to chase that dream till it comes true, because it is in moments like these that we can truly find happiness; it is in times like these that we discover the magic of life..."
